San Diego international Comic-Con 2024 (which we’ll call Comic-Con 2024) dominated the pop culture scene late last month when it took place in San Diego. I mean, sure, there was big news like Robert Downey Jr. rejoining the Marvel cinematic universe with a cape and a mask as Dr. Doom, Star Trek getting a new series with “Section 31,” Sega’s fictional Yukuza game series getting a Netflix series, and on and on.
But, speaking of video games, games did own a corner of Comic-Con 2024 with cosplayers, games-related talks, exhibitors, and more. But let’s get really focused. What about video game figures?
As it happens, IGN had that covered at Comic-Con 2024 this year. With a four minute-long YouTube video, IGN’s Max Scoville and Brian Altano explored Comic-Con’s massive expo spaces to surface some of the slickest figures from past and present video games. Classic Street Fighter 2 and Mega Man characters, both big Capcom game franchises, get up-close highlights. Even the busted-up signature Street Fighter barrels get a cameo. Plus, exotic car models were featured, too, with a look and feel designed to match figures or their brand.
Beyond video games, pop culture icons like Deadpool, Scooby-Do, and Spongebob Squarepants are also highlighted in their respective familiar-looking environments (or “modeling” with the cars), so the figures look even more on point. This short and sweet video is definitely worth checking out over a snack or coffee break.
