The Game Developer Conference (GDC) is one of the major annual events on any game developer’s calendar. But, of course, for many reasons, it’s not always easy for many folks to attend a show like GDC 2025. Perhaps the next best thing to being there is getting a good, long look at part of the exhibition floor and many of the games, services, tools, and developers on showcase. If so, then this Video of the Month will be a treat.
Thanks to broadcaster NBC Bay Area, who livestreamed a two hour stream on Wednesday (March 19) from the expo floor of GDC 2025 across YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook, viewers helped direct the stream so they could see who and what interested them. In this on-demand recording, it’s possible to see some some of the dominant presences on the floor, like Discord, AWS, Microsoft, and other major tech companies invested in the game development space.
Around the 16 minute mark, alternative game control-focused ctrl.alt.gdc section and the elbow-to-elbow crowds are explored for over 15 minutes, so it’s possible to get a good look at some unique indie game concepts.
The Game History Gallery, which we highlighted last year, is part of the walkthrough around the 43 minute mark, with a few of the unreleased games shown. It’s very cool stuff, if you’re a fan of obscure, rare, and interesting video game development history.
Among some of the other companies surfaced in the walkthrough is Ovomind (at the one-hour mark), a company launching a smartband this year that captures emotions and stress that an AI algorithm can convert into in-game feedback and outcomes. A little bit later, there’s a demo with Ethereal Matter, behind their EVA suit, which creates full-body, interactive, immersive experiences by connecting the virtual world to the physical.
Over the course of two hours, there’s plenty more to see and check out, and to explore it, settle in with the full video that follows!
