Nothing says New York City like great food, culture, history, sports teams and touristy stops. However, there are some folks who would like to add “gaming” to that list of defining NYC features.
To that end, Playcrafting, an indie game development-focused training and events community in San Francisco, Boston and New York City, is taking their game to the next level. PLAY NYC, a two day event for gamers of all stripes has been formally announced.
PLAY NYC brings a larger-scale consumer friendly consumer game play experience to New York City, as region usually dominated by Boston’s PAX East or New York Comic Con, which has partially addresses gaming audiences in that show. For context, Polygon recently published a deep dive feature on the expanding New York City gaming community, including info on PLAY NYC and its organizers.
Coming up on August 19th and 20th, Playcrafting is expecting about 5,000 attendees to join game creators and other industry pros in playing, showing and talking about games at PLAY NYC. As the name itself helpfully hints, the event will be hosted in the heart of New York City, at the sprawling Terminal 5 venue, which is stacked with over 20,000 square feet and three floors — and a rooftop. The organizers also predict the presence of one hundred booths, from both small and larger studios, will fill the space and ten talks and panels each day from industry leaders.
General admission rates (early bird until June 16th) are $20 for general admission and $50 for game industry developers and pros. Potential sponsors and press can also apply via the official site.
