Nordic Game 2013: A Week of Highlights


The tenth edition of Europe’s most relevant games industry conference achieved results the organizers had only dared to dream of.

With four packed days, new pre-conference events such as Unite Nordic, an Indie Night with more than 800 visitors, and the main conference itself breaking all records, Nordic Game 2013 was a true celebration of the Nordic games community.

Here are some of the many highlights:

The numbers went through the Slagthuset roof

More visitors than ever before took the trip to Slagthuset in Malmø, Sweden this year. 600 guests learned about Unity at the Unite Nordic event (21-22 May), 800 played new games from the huge talent scene of the region at Nordic Game Indie Night (22 May), and more than 1400 delegates joined main conference NG13 (23-24 May).


Tim was here!
It was not easy getting all guests inside the auditorium of the Slagthuset venue in time on the first conference day, but once there legendary developer Tim Schafer welcomed the audience with his opening keynote speech. The undisputed highlight of a program with more than 70 prominent speakers, Tim was backed up by a string of global as well as local heroes, including keynotes by Unity’s David Helgason, and the audio team from Telltale Games’ “The Walking Dead”.

3 Million to new Nordic games 

11 new Nordic game projects were granted 3 Million DKK in the 2013 support round of the Nordic Game Program, among them Erik Svedäng, Sweden who received 300 000 DKK for his anticipated game “Else – Heartbreak”.

Hitman took main award

Danish IO Interactive took the “Best Nordic Game of the Year” prize at the annual Nordic Game Awards on 23 May with “Hitman: Absolution”. Other award winners were Supercell’s “Hay Day”, and “Unmechanical” by Teotl Studios from Sweden.


Megapop won the Live-Pitch at NG13
Norwegian Megapop is a startup studio founded by former Funcom (“Age of Conan, The Longest Journey”) and Artplant (“Battlestar Galactica Online”) developers. Their first game, “Trolls vs Vikings”, won the annual Live-Pitch at NG13 in a fierce battle between four Nordic companies in the final round. Megapop pitched to a panel of noted, professional game investors, as well as the large NG13 live audience. More about that here: http://megapopgames.com.
