HV Gamer Con 2020 Announces Full Lineup Making it the Biggest Esports Event in the Capital Region 

Albany, N.Y. – HV Gamer Con 2020 which includes partners Albany Capital Center (ACC)Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)Gaming Insomniacs and the Center for Economic Growth (CEG) are pleased to announce an expanded lineup of events for HV Gamer Con 2020 happening April 4 and 5 at the Albany Capital Center.

HV Gamer Con 2020 will feature the ECAC ESports Finals in Overwatch, Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Gaming Insomniacs will facilitate a 16-team high school tournament in NBA 2k20 and Super Smash Bros. Compete4Ever organizer and SNY host Larry Ridley will host a Madden 20 tournament that will be open to the public and feature local gamers. Gaming Insomniacs will also host a mobile Fortnite tournament that all attendees can participate in, with thousands of dollars in prizes.

An announcement about how to get involved in the public tournaments will be made in early March.

In addition to the gaming, HV Gamer Con will feature four panel discussions with topics including “The Local Boom of Gaming Companies (and Careers Available), “How to Get Recruited to Play Esports in College” (both days) and “Wellness for the Gamer.”

“The number one piece of feedback we received after our event in 2019 was that people wanted more activities to participate in. We are excited to announce the full lineup of events with multiple public tournaments,” said Doug McClaine, general manager of the Albany Capital Center. “We will continue to rollout more details on how to get involved ahead of April 4.”

“Esports continues to grow at a rapid pace at ECAC. In just the past two years the number of schools competing has grown exponentially,” said Dan Coonan, president and CEO of ECAC. “We will display some of the best collegiate esports competitors in Albany this April.”

An expo of gaming equipment, studios, games and more will also surround the main gaming stages.

This past December, HV Gamer Con 2020 was awarded nearly $158,000 by the New York state Regional Economic Development Council, established by Governor Andrew Cuomo, to organize and promote the event.

“This funding for HV Gamer Con will further cement the region’s reputation as an esports and digital gaming destination. The first HV Gamer Con was a big success, and with this funding, the second will be bigger and better,” said Center for Economic Growth President and CEO Andrew Kennedy.

“Gaming Insomniacs is excited to join the ECAC and CEG this year by creating new opportunities for those in the community to get involved in the excitement of esports,” said Jide Osipitanco-founder, Gaming Insomniacs.
