Gen Con Indy Volunteer Applications Open February 17

As many have said in past years, one of the secret ingredients to the success of Gen Con is the excitement and joy that the show’s volunteers bring to the Best Four Days in Gaming!™

This year, the call for volunteers will begin on February 17, 2014. Potential applicants will be able to find their application at gencon.com.

Important notes regarding Volunteer applications:

  • Applications will become available at noon (Eastern) on Monday, February 17.
  • Applicants will need a gencon.com account to sign-up, but will not need a badge in their account to apply.
  • Gen Con will review applications in the weeks following February 17, and will approve volunteers up to two weeks before Event Registration goes live in May. Applicants should lock up their event schedule as early as possible to allow for easier scheduling on-site.
  • Almost all volunteers will be notified of their schedule and final status by mid-July.
  • A limited number of new slots will be made available for this year’s show. For new applicants, Gen Con primarily will focus on hourly volunteers in 2014.
  • Hourly volunteers can work as little as one hour and as many as 32 hours at Gen Con 2014.

2014 Charity
Last week, the Gen Con team announced its official 2014 Charity Partner, Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. As Gen Con’s Charity Partner, Gleaners will receive donations from a number of highly popular Gen Con events, including the destruction of Cardhalla, the “Slay the Creature” balloon battle, several charity auctions, and many more!
“We are so grateful to have a community-driven event like Gen Con here in Indianapolis,” said Gleaners President & CEO, Cindy Hubert. “The partnership with Gen Con will be a great one, and we are glad to have them assisting us in the fight against childhood hunger.”

Specifically, Gen Con will support Gleaners with their BackSacks: Weekend Food for Kids program, a youth initiative that provides weekend, take-home lunches through local schools. BackSacks are distributed to more than 10,000 at-risk children in grades K-6 in Indiana. These free lunches provide a nutrition resource to more than 230 participating schools.
