E3 likely to change venue in 2016

From Gamasutra: “E3 is a world class show that deserves a world class venue. The Los Angeles Convention Center is no longer a top-tier property.” – Michael Gallagher, president of the Entertainment Software Association, hints that EA may be moving venue soon.

Currently ongoing in L.A., E3 is one of the largest annual video game trade shows in the world. The city has hosted E3 for 17 of the 19 years it has been running.

Gallagher has previously hinted that he’d like to move to a different venue back in 2012, although he then went on to sign an agreement to bring E3 to the Convention Center until 2015.

But with time quickly approaching on E3 2016, Gallagher and his team are currently making a decision on where E3 should be held once this agreement runs out — and it sounds like a move away from the Convention Center is on the cards.

“The time to make this decision is relatively short,” he said at a media dinner on Sunday, as reported by CNBC. “We’ll consider all cities that can improve the experience.”

Gallagher noted that talks are underway with other venues in the greater L.A. area, while CNBC sources suggested that Chicago, San Francisco, New York and New Orleans are all being considered.

“This is a very important period we’re in,” he added. “We’re open minded. The Los Angeles Convention Center could be a world class venue, but with other venues, we have that right now.”
