NVIDIA’s GTC DC 2017 Schedule Now Online

0

NVIDIA is taking their GPU Technology Conference (GTC) of GPU, VR, AI power and prowess to DC in early November (1st and 2nd). At GTC in DC, expect a focus on AI and machine learning in particular, where application in government and research work are an emerging match of interests. Still, there’s plenty to see in the graphics-fueled area of VR and high-powered mainstream level chipsets and software, as is traditional to an NVIDIA GTC event. The twist is that many of the talks and demos on these topics will be delivered by experts from the fields of aeronautics and military technology laboratories. Perhaps some game-like or serious game military and healthcare simulations might be part of the event’s talks or exhibits?

But, if you want to see the full agenda for yourself, with over 100 sessions and over 130 speakers, the full spread of the schedule is now online through this link.

In keeping with the regional focus in and around Washington D.C,, and perhaps to attract the potentially interested amongst the suit-and-tie government set, NVIDIA is offering attendance to government workers for free. Otherwise, attendees can register for $400 for the conference and $800 if you throw in training. Academics and non-profits can attend at half off.

For all the information you might want to know about NVIDIA’s plans for the GTC DC event, visit the official site for all the details!

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – September 29, 2017 – Bluehole, Inc., announced today a change to its organizational structure with the formation of PUBG Corp., a subsidiary focused entirely on the development and global business opportunities for PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG).

Gang-Seok Kim, the CEO of Bluehole, Inc., has appointed Chang Han Kim as the Chief Executive Officer and Woonghee Cho as the Chief Operating Officer for PUBG Corp. Chang Han Kim led the development of PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, previously working as Vice President and Executive Producer for Bluehole, Inc. Woonghee Cho, who previously served as the CEO of Maui Games and as Head of Business Development for Neowiz, will focus on accelerating overall business development and managing global operations for PUBG.

“Given PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS global success, we want to ensure that we have the operational efficiency that is required to support the game globally,” said Chang Han Kim, CEO, PUBG Corp. “This new structure allows us to be nimble as we look towards the expansion of strategic business opportunities that include the game’s potential in the esports sector and the growth of PUBG as a true global IP franchise.”

As part of its international expansion, PUBG Corp. has recently established an office in the United States and is preparing to do the same in Europe and Japan. This expansion will allow for more centralized points of contact for players around the world, ensuring that development for PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS continues to be global in nature.

PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS has sold more than thirteen million copies and has surpassed the all-time record for the most concurrent users (CCUs) on Steam with over 1.5 million active players in the game at a given time.

PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS drops players on a realistic 8 x 8 km island with visuals that showcase Unreal Engine 4’s capabilities. Starting with nothing, gamers must fight to locate weapons, vehicles and supplies as they strive to be the lone survivor.

PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS is now available on Steam Early Access and is launching exclusively on Xbox One as part of the Xbox Game Preview program in late 2017, with the final version launching in early 2018 across the Xbox One family of devices.

ELEAGUE Utilizes Innovative Technologies to Enhance Fan Experience (press release)

Cupertino, California — September 7, 2017 — ELEAGUE, the premium esports tournament and content brand from Turner and IMG, has announced a collection of cutting-edge technologies that will be integrated into the upcoming ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017. ELEAGUE’s live coverage of the Premier will incorporate biometrics to provide unparalleled insights into a player’s reaction time and field of vision; an immersive virtual reality experience; and the use of advanced analytics.  Live ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017 action will begin Friday, Sept. 8, at 10 p.m. ET on TBS, with digital coverage starting at 6 p.m. across Twitch, ELEAGUE.com, YouTube, Twitter and VR coverage presented on SLIVER.tv.

“These latest technology and product enhancements will further improve the fan experience, creating even more opportunities to engage with our ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier content,” said Robert Occhialini, Vice President, esports Products and Technology, Turner Sports. “We’re looking forward to working closely with our technology partners as we continue to drive innovation across our growing esports portfolio.”

Biometrics
In partnership with Dell Gaming, the official PC hardware provider of ELEAGUE, eye-tracking technology developed by Tobii will be utilized by ELEAGUE for the first time, tracking the eye-movements of some of the world’s best CS:GO pros using micro projectors and sensors. This biometric data is analyzed on Alienware PCs and used to create an immediate gaze overlay highlighting precisely where the player is looking throughout their play. These tools offer a new level of situational awareness, showing split-second reactions and giving both casters and viewers insight into how players may react and process high-pressure scenarios.

Virtual Reality
In collaboration with SLIVER.tv, audiences will be able to access ELEAGUE’s live coverage of Premier matches in 360-degree cinematic virtual reality stream. SLIVER.tv’s patented technology will immerse the CS:GO fan inside the game map, allowing a unique perspective on their favorite players and an exceptional level of gameplay interaction. ELEAGUE’s partnership with SLIVER.tv also allows for the viewer to access its primary 2D game feed from within the VR environment. VR will be supported across web, iPhone, Android, Gear VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Daydream and Google Cardboard platforms.

Advanced Analytics
Leveraging Dojo Madness’ Shadow.GG platform, ELEAGUE will offer viewers advanced data visuals including heatmaps, smokemaps and pathmaps, along with tactical and statistical replay views. Shadow.GG will provide ELEAGUE’s analysts and viewers with a data-based method to identify teams’ strategic tendencies, strengths and weaknesses.

The image above is an example of a two-dimensional tactical replay, which Shadow.GG can provide for any CS:GO round that is added to its extensive match library.

gamescom 2017 – Media coverage analysis

0

From Thomas Bidaux at Gamasutra Blogs:

This is the week after gamescom, and as is tradition, I have some numbers to share about the event. I will reference data from previous years (some slightly adjusted), as this exercise has been done now for 2014, 2015 and 2016.

New dates

As for the last 3 years in a row, the dates have changed, with gamescom roughly a week later than the previous year. Moreover, it now starts on Tuesday instead of Wednesday, and ends on the Saturday rather than the Sunday. For professionals (at least the ones coming from Europe), it has the advantage of covering the work week, you can easily be back home on Friday.

Press Conferences

Microsoft kind-of had a press event? It was more similar to the Nintendo Direct format, with no onsite event, just a live video event being streamed. For reference, the last time Sony had a press event at gamescom was in 2014; while Microsoft skipped last year.

The Microsoft event seemed very weak to me. They only announced one new game for Xbox, Jurassic World Evolution, and it is not a very strong fit for a console genre-wise. They actually held their best game announcement for the following day, revealing a new Age of Empires is coming. The limited Scorpio edition also got decent coverage, but it seems to me it is more a sign of how light the event was in content.

Numbers

I went and pulled the attendance numbers from the previous years, to see how gamescom is doing in that regard. You can find the 2017 numbers here.
