Intel® Extreme Masters Presents The Rio Major —First-Ever CS:GO Major in South America

Cologne/New York  ESL Gaming, the world’s leading esports company, today revealed details about the highly-anticipated Intel® Extreme Masters (IEM) Rio CS:GO Major Championship, the first-ever Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) Major to take place in Brazil. Coming to the heart of South America, the competition is set to take place October 31-November 13, with fans being able to experience the spectacular action live at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, November 10-13.

With a great deal at stake, 24 of the world’s best CS:GO teams will face off in this 18th CS:GO Major in order to compete for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be the winner of the very first CS:GO Major in South America. Moreover, the teams have a chance to take home their share of the US$1M total prize pool and a win towards their Intel® Grand Slam run.

The CS:GO Major consists of three stages, each its own format. During the first phase, the Challengers Stage will host 16 teams qualifying via IEM Road to Rio (the RMR series) to enter a Swiss bracket and face off in a best-of-one. The elimination and advancement matches will be played out as best-of-three, with the top eight teams proceeding to the Legends Stage. Here, these teams are joined by eight other teams coming through IEM Road to Rio while playing a similar format to the previous stage. The eight best teams in the Legends Stage will qualify for the Champions Stage that will be played out in a single-elimination playoff bracket and that will allow for the best team to eventually claim the coveted title.

“We couldn’t be more excited to finally bring the Major to Rio de Janeiro,” said Ulrich Schulze, SVP Product Management at ESL Gaming. “The ever-growing and passionate Brazilian esports community is amazing and for the past couple of years we have been hoping to provide the fans with one of the greatest esports experiences ever. Now the time is finally here and we can’t wait for the world’s best CS:GO teams to ultimately enter the Jeunesse Arena and have it shake to its foundations from the excitement from Brazil and beyond.”

Intel is very proud to bring Intel Extreme Masters back to Brazil – and this time as a CS:GO Major so our local gaming community can experience firsthand one of the top CS:GO tournaments in the world. Gaming happens with Intel, and we have increasingly sought to offer the best technologies to gamers around the world. Brazil is one of Intel’s key markets in the world and when it comes to gaming, 3 out of 4 Brazilians play electronic games, so being part of the organization of an event as big as this one is very important for us”, says Carlos Augusto Buarque, marketing director at Intel Brazil.

The IEM Rio Major marks ESL Gaming’s 10th Major since the very first Major tournament took place at DreamHack Winter in 2013. The event was initially set to take place between April 26 and May 24, 2020, but eventually got postponed due to the ongoing global pandemic. Nonetheless, ESL Gaming and Valve have been devoted to bringing the CS:GO Major to Brazil once circumstances would allow.

The tickets for the IEM Rio Major will go on sale on Wednesday, May 25 at 14:00 BRT/19:00 CEST. Prices range between R$90 for an early bird Thursday/Friday one-day ticket, and R$1,999 for the Lounge ticket. More details about what each ticket type entails and information about how to secure your particular tickets can be found here.

Fans who bought a ticket in 2020 and decided to keep it instead of refunding it, can use that respective ticket for the same day(s) and categories of the tournament.

US Cyber Games Season II Announced, Aims to Promote Careers in Cybersecurity

Researcher and publisher, Cybersecurity Ventures, recently predicted there will be 3.5 million cybersecurity jobs to fill by 2025, roughly the same as the need at present. Defined another way, there’s enough demand for qualified cybersecurity talent that it would fill 50 NFL stadiums. So, the demand to fill these roles is stabilizing a bit but still remains. Perhaps the biggest challenge is to find and develop candidates with the right set of tools and capabilities for these roles.

One way is to use eSports, cyber games, and other types of competitions to help engage with the younger generation, using game mechanics and problem-solving skills that can overlap between playing competitive games and finding and solving cybersecurity challenges. One company, Katcy, a growth-hacking agency supporting tech and infosec business, sent out word recently they’re launching US Cyber Games Season II. Partnering with them on this initiative is the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Participants in the US Cyber Games program compete in capture the flag (CTF) and red team vs. blue team competitions, and they also can compete at the varsity level on the global stage.

We spoke in the past with Jessica Gulick, who is the US Cyber Games Commissioner and founder of PlayCyber by Katcy, about the role of esports and cyber games and how they overlap with cyber security work (and also helping to bring women opportunities to upskill and be able to join the workforce in security roles). In the interview, she noted the synergy between gaming and cybersecurity, which remains at least as true now as it did then:

Gamers live in a world of continuous discovery and trying new things. Esports in particular requires team skills, communication, and competitive behaviors – so does cybersecurity jobs. The main differences are being overcome slowly — cybersecurity is a boring sport because it lacks visualization. This is why I have reengaged. The market is ready for an evolution of cyber games. We are ready to move past boring, safe networks where we can safely hack things.

Jessica Gulick, US Cyber Games Commissioner

Via the US Cyber Games program, which aims to help participants build “confidence, improv(e) skills, and becom(e) better prepared for careers in cybersecurity. Several events are lined up for this program that aims to fulfill these objectives include a:

Capture the flag (CTF) challenge

From July 1-July 10, 2022, competitors will get involved in an open format CTF competitions that will include virtual cybersecurity challenges within the domains of reconnaissance, cryptanalysis, operations security, forensics analysis, and malware analysis. Winners will be chose in each area and for the overall competition, with prizes awarded accordingly.

Combine Invitational

Later in the summer, from August 5 to September 5, 2022, selected 18-24 year-old cybersecurity athletes, will participate in virtual learning opportunities, hands-on exercises, as well as competitions. This combine will serve as a qualifying window, where athletes will undergo a cybersecurity aptitude assessment, interviews with difference coaches, the conclude with an advanced-level CTD qualifier round.

US Cyber Team Draft

Then, after the competitions and assessments, on October 17, 2022, two teams of drafted cybersecurity athletes will be invited to join the Season II US Cyber Team and represent the United states in different global cybersecurity competitions and challenges over the following year.

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate and support the initiative through joining as a coach. The call for coaches, whether from government, business or academia, is open until June 3, 2022. Of course, what is an esports competition without competitors? The call for competitors — which will be an opportunity to showcase skills, build new ones, and maybe qualify for the Season II US Cyber Team — is open until July 3, 2022. For potential sponsors who wish to support the program, they can visit the official sponsorship page for more details.

0

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL (May 16, 2022) — Tickets for the 10th edition of Brazil’s Independent Game (BIG) Festival are now available! For the first time in two years, Latin America’s largest independent games festival returns as a hybrid event, inviting all to attend in-person at the São Paulo Expo, as well as online. Taking place from July 6 to 10, 2022, in gorgeous São Paulo, Brazil, the 10th edition of BIG Festival celebrates games, development, business, and networking opportunities from across the globe.
In-person tickets are now on sale via the official website. For those who wish to attend virtually, the online event is free to attend beginning July 6, 2022.

There has never been a better time to experience all the incredible games and opportunities that have sent the country of Brazil rocketing to the top of the LATAM games market, further cementing itself as a major industry hub and trendsetter.

“Brazilian studios have been getting a lot of international attention, like the recent investments and partnerships from big players like Epic Games, Fortis Games, and Room8 Studio. These are just the beginning, and we are foreseeing a fantastic BIG Festival this year,” said Eliana Russi, Executive Manager at Brazil Games.

“Without a doubt, this will be the biggest edition of the BIG Festival. In addition to the big names already confirmed at the event, we still have a lot of news to announce in the coming weeks. We couldn’t celebrate the 10th edition of this event in a better way, since it is proving itself more and more as one of the most important in the gaming scene in the world,” said Gustavo Steinberg, Director of BIG Festival.

With support from Brazil Games (the Brazilian Games Export Program), which is carried out by Abragames (Brazilian Games Companies Association) and ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), BIG Festival is Latin America’s most important business hub within the video game industry, strengthening the gaming ecosystem in Brazil. The festival has shown the best games throughout Latin America and the world, and has been the platform for major announcements from renowned publishers and industry leaders like Nintendo, Microsoft, Capcom, Newzoo, and many more.

Last year’s event featured some huge announcements, like Capcom’s presentation about Resident Evil that showcased the first game in the franchise to be dubbed in Brazilian Portuguese, and the launch of a new Job Portal, where companies can seek qualified labor and aspiring industry workers can find opportunities for work — an event that witnessed more than 1,000 registered professionals sign up. As a valuable space for newcomers to the industry and veterans alike, for a decade, BIG Festival has been a home for valuable business meetings, awards, press coverage, lectures, and the presence of the world’s leading professionals, as well as publishers and investors.

To purchase tickets to BIG Festival 2022, visit the official BIG Festival website: https://www.bigfestival.com.br/take-part.html.

Last year, more than 20 million people participated in the second incarnation of BIG Digital — the virtual festival established in 2020 in response to the impact of the global pandemic. Online lectures were accessed more than 800,000 times and the event’s website, along with several activities in addition to panels and lectures, received over two million hits during the festival period. Despite the shift to an online format, BIG Festival 2021 achieved record numbers — making it the most successful edition of the event so far. With over 70 hours of bilingual content, in Portuguese and English, the event was broadcast live with more than 300 speakers and 545 companies across 64 countries participating in the event, with more than 5,000 business meetings scheduled. The estimated value of business from BIG Festival 2021 alone generated over $50 million USD in revenue.

BIG Festival 2022 looks to be no different, with the event bringing together an anticipated 30,000 people to the physical space, in addition to reaching more than one million game enthusiasts, industry professionals, and passionate people via the online broadcasts. There will be over 100 hours of live talks and performances, as well as over 200 select games available to play, both online and in person.

Brazil is now the largest market by games revenues in LATAM and #12 in the world in 2022. The $2.3 billion USD Brazilian games industry has seen explosive growth over the last several years, with the number of local gamers reaching a staggering 94.7 million as of 2021. The mobile gaming market accounts for nearly half the revenue, and is the fastest-growing sector, however, both console and PC account for $657 million and $556 million respectively.

ESL Gaming Returns to North America with Intel® Extreme Masters Dallas Beginning May 30

0

Cologne / New York –Intel® Extreme Masters (IEM) returns to the North American continent! June 3-5, 2022, fans are invited to enter the arena of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center during DreamHack Dallas to cheer on the world’s best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) teams.

IEM Dallas 2022 marks ESL’s first live event in the Americas in almost three years and will take place at the first full-scale DreamHack festival in nearly 2.5 years. The most recent ESL events on U.S. soil were IEM Chicago and ESL One New York in 2019. At both previous events, a U.S. team eventually secured the trophy. We will know whether this is bound to happen again in just one month.

What’s at Stake
While battling it out for a share of the $250,000 total prize pool, 16 top CS:GO teams will face off starting May 30 to earn a spot in the playoffs and play on stage in front of a live audience. The IEM Katowice 2022 runner-up G2 Esports, the ESL Pro League Season 15 runner-up ENCE Esports, the Danish powerhouse Heroic, the recently signed Cloud9 roster, and the remarkable Australian squad LookingForOrg are all among the qualified teams.

Having a chance to compete on their home turf, Complexity Gaming has also secured its spot in the tournament. They are joined by the two Brazilian squads FURIA Esports and Imperial Esports, who will show whether it’s new blood or the veterans who make the biggest impact. Ninjas in Pyjamas also has a shot at manifesting the effect of their latest roster addition: the young Swede Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin. The Czech organization Entropiq and the German organization MOUZ are the latest two additions to the list as they secured a spot for IEM Dallas by finishing in the top two of the EU Closed Qualifier on May 4.

Furthermore, by securing their spot for IEM Dallas, FaZe Clan will have a chance to earn their third title in the race for the Intel® Grand Slam IV and its $1 million cash prize. To add this desired third out of the four needed wins to their name, they will need to compete with the previous Intel® Grand Slam winners — AstralisTeam Liquid, and Natus Vincere — who all qualified for IEM Dallas as well. In addition, former IEM title holder Team Vitality will also participate in the tournament, offering them the chance to go head-to-head with FaZe Clan in the race to mark their name in CS:GO history.

There is More
For the first time in the history of Intel® Extreme Masters, the event will be hosted by the three-day, immersive gaming-lifestyle festival DreamHack, allowing visitors of the IEM event to enjoy DreamHack Dallas and vice versa.

Finally, the competing teams will be facing off to earn ESL Pro Tour (EPT) points. These EPT points are needed to qualify for and join the already qualified FaZe Clan at IEM Cologne, which will take place in Cologne, Germany, July 5-17.

From a Cosplay Championship, Fighting Game Tournaments, Tabletop Gaming, Indie Games, Live Music concerts, and panels to the beloved and famous Bring-Your-Own-Computer (BYOC) LAN party and an Expo, DreamHack Dallas offers everything gaming under one roof. Combined with the heated-up IEM competition, fans can expect an unforgettable experience.

When and Where to Watch
The group stage of IEM Dallas kicks off on Monday, May 30. Until June 1, two groups of eight teams will battle it out in a double-elimination Bo3. After that, the top three teams of each group will proceed to the playoff stage, taking place live at DreamHack Dallas in the arena of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, on June 3-5. The playoff matches will be single-elimination, with the quarter and semi-finals played out as Bo3, and the Grand Final as Bo5.

Fans tuning in online and watching the matches from around the globe can expect an exciting broadcast filled with extra content. The CS:GO competition can be watched on ESL Gaming’s CS:GO Twitch channel, on live.intelextrememasters.com, and will be broadcasted by our dedicated broadcast partners.

AffPapa iGaming Awards 2022

The AffPapa iGaming Awards will celebrate affiliates and operators – highlighting the strongest industry performers from across the world.

AffPapa is pleased to announce the launch of its first-ever iGaming Awards, which will recognize affiliates and operators that have helped shape and define the industry over the previous year.

Who can participate?

The Awards has 20 nomination categories prepared where both iGaming affiliates and operators have an exclusive opportunity to compete with the best names of the industry. The event will gather members from every corner, creating a real-life melting pot that reflects the incredible evolution of the iGaming industry over the years.

The Awards ceremony

The AffPapa iGaming Awards will be held exclusively online, from registration to the announcement of results. The awards, however, will be handed out in-person early July in Amsterdam, Netherlands during the iCatchUp event organized by AffPapa (more details about it will be available soon).

Everyone in the industry will have a chance to vote and have their say in who takes the title home – bringing a broad set of in-depth experience to the table.

The event will be promoted across all AffPapa channels, including newsletters and social media. As the leading iGaming directory connecting affiliates and operators, AffPapa is well-known for developing connections and bringing exposure to those who prove to be excellent partners.

Yeva Avagyan, Head of Commercial at AffPapa, commented on the launch:

“In the past year, we’ve truly set a record for ourselves, and it was only natural to start thinking of something big – something that would further unite industry members while also bringing a little fun to the game! We’re excited to announce the launch of our first iGaming Awards and look forward to seeing the industry come together and celebrate one another. Given the response we’ve received so far, I am confident that this Awards will generate a lot of excitement and pave the way for other major events in the future!”
