Sony, Microsoft, SEGA and Ubisoft will be among 30+ experts providing insight into their QA and localisation strategies at this unique event, providing a platform for the games industry to hold dedicated meetings at the most senior level.

The full conference brochure has been launched and is available to view online now: http://bit.ly/1iJgdPU

GDC Next 2014 Debuts Call for Talks, Reveals Themes

UBM Tech is announcing a call to present lectures, roundtables and panels at the 2nd annual Game Developers Conference Next as well as the featured App Developers Conference.

GDC Next and ADC, which aim to highlight practical ways for developers to increase the creative and financial success of their projects, are taking place simultaneously on November 3rd-4th, 2014 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Submissions for presentations will be accepted from now through Friday, May 30th.

The conference organizers and advisory board are programming the second annual GDC Next to answer a simple question: Once you’ve made your game, what comes next?

Today’s market is constantly inundated with new games, resulting in peak saturation. GDC Next seeks to provide attendees with knowledge about how to increase discoverability, gain exposure, broaden your audience, differentiate your work, and successfully create your game as a true experience. The advisory board will seek out talks that offer a practical path to success in these areas, and share ways to increase your fiscal and creative success at the same time.

To that end, organizers are looking to bring the creators of tomorrow’s (and today’s!) biggest and most innovative video games and game platforms together in one location to share knowledge about how to make a game that stands out in the market. Those who submit talks are being asked to present fun, informative presentations on best practices across five newly-revised tracks: Design, Community, Business & Marketing, Discoverability, and Production.

GDC Next organizers and its esteemed advisory board, separate and unique from the ADC advisory board, will be accepting submissions now through May 30th.

GDC Next will also feature the second annual App Developers Conference, a fresh endeavor from the creators of GDC focusing on the best practices for development, UI, marketing and business of apps beyond games. Whether their apps embrace iOS, Android or other platforms, organizers are striving to bring together the very best app creators for this event so they can share their best practices with you.

Some of the major app vertical markets covered at this year’s ADC will be Entertainment, Enterprise, Health/Wellness, Brand Marketing and Lifestyle apps. Organizers are looking to greenlight high-quality talks on design, programming, and business/marketing from practitioners in these areas, and folks looking to submit ADC talk proposals can do so via the GDC Next submission system.

With a developer-focused Expo Floor area as well as numerous day and evening networking events, GDC Next 2014 and ADC will offer business and networking opportunities to all attendees. For additional details about GDC Next and ADC, visit the event homepage.

‘Doctor Who’ actor, Tom Baker, Lends Voice to Major Character in Recent Role-Play Convention Award Recipient, ‘Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms’

Eschborn, 12th May 2014 – He is back! Tom Baker, who already gave us goosebumps as the narrator in Kult: Heretic Kingdoms, will take on a new role in Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms. This time he will use his distinctive voice to bring life to one of the main charactes in the game: „Krenze“ – The renegade High Sage of Penta Nera.

Longtime Dr. Who fans know Baker as the fourth Doctor, whom he played for seven years, and who has recently returned in a line of audio books by Big Finish. Baker has also starred in a number of films and television shows, including the film version of Dungeons & Dragons.

“I’m overjoyed that Tom is returning to participate in the new Heretic Kingdoms game!” said Chris Bateman, lead writer and co-creator of the franchise. “The recording sessions for Kult were amazing, and Tom took on the role of narrator and knocked it out of the park. I can’t wait to hear his take on this new role, which is integral to the story of the new game.”

Additonally Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms has received the award as “Most Promising Product” by the RPC in Cologne, the biggest European Role-Play-Convention. The Jury said: “The isometric Action-RPG Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms looks a little like other titles from the genre. But this title by the Slovakian studio Games Farm will offer more complexity due to its party-system and will feature a deep, complex story.”

Acrosser Techonolgy will be at Computex Taipei 2014

Computex Taipei 2014 is the largest ICT exhibition in Asia, and Acrosser Technology has decided to participate in this event. They will be at TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall, booth K0216. A second booth can be located by the entrance of the Embedded Products Area. The professional sales team of Acrosser will be ready to showcase their latest products to consumers.

E3-alternative press conference Horizon is back

From Gamasutra: E3 has long been known for its major press conferences — and indies have recently taken the stage at events like these. Still, there’s room for a different kind of showcase with its own perspective and intent.

For the second year, Venus Patrol’s Horizon showcase will take place in Los Angeles the same week as the industry event with its aim to showcase “beautiful, original games from studios both small and large.” It is a joint production of Venus Patrol founder and IGF chairman Brandon Boyer and LA’s Museum of Contemporary Art, and will take place at 10 AM PST on Thursday, June 12th, 2014.

Last year, Horizon saw game announcements from celebrated independent developers — such as a collaboration between Robin Hunicke (Journey) and Keita Takahashi (Katamari Damacy) and Phil Fish’s Fez II. It also showcased Double Fine’s Broken Age, Capy’s Below, and more.

If you’re interested in submitting your game for inclusion into this year’s event, there’s a survey at the Venus Patrol blog which you can fill out to be considered.

Curious about how Horizon played out in 2013? You can read Gamasutra’s report from the event or watch a recording of the presentation above.

Casual Connect Eastern Europe Makes Move to Belgrade in November

The Casual Games Association has announced in a press release they are moving Casual Connect Eastern Europe (CCEE) to Belgrade, Serbia from Kyiv, Ukraine. The conference will be hosted on November 10-12, 2014 at the Crown Plaza Belgrade in the heart of the Serbian capital. The organizers are planning for about 900 attendees to check in.

‘“Eastern Europe is a hotspot for game development, and we are excited to be heading to the energetic city of Belgrade,” says Jessica Tams, Managing Director of Casual Games Association.’

Above and beyond lectures and networking, attendees can expect to find the Indie Prize Showcase, where qualified indie developer can present their games at CCEE, and the IDEA Showcase. The IDEA (International Design, Entertain, and Amaze) Showcase is an opportunity for more established developers to connect with international partners for publishing and all vendors in between. Read all about it at http://www.ideashowcase.cc/2014/.

Currently listed on the Casual Games Association site as being hosted in Kyiv on October 22-24, the press release has announced that in fact the date is being moved a bit later in the year by several weeks and 609 miles away as the crow flies. It would not be an unreasonable guess (not officially verified) that one of the reasons the conference has been moved is due to the political instability in the Ukrainian region, while still remaining in the heart of Eastern Europe.

Registration for Casual Connect Eastern Europe is open for business at http://ee.casualconnect.org/registration.html.
